Croc Country Australia recently joined Endeavour Veterinary Ecology (EVE) for a groundbreaking crocodile research project in Cape York. Known for their innovative wildlife tracking technologies, EVE applied the K-Tracker system to monitor estuarine crocodile movements. This advanced GPS-tagging tool provided real-time insights into crocodile behaviour, aiding public safety and conservation efforts.
The team, including Indigenous rangers from the Nanum Wungthim Land and Sea Management Program, successfully captured and tagged eight crocodiles ranging from 2.5 to 4.5 meters in just seven days. These tags now transmit vital data on habitat use and territorial behaviours. The collaboration highlighted the importance of combining technology with traditional knowledge to manage human-wildlife interactions effectively.
It was an incredible experience to contribute to this project, which not only enhances community safety but also strengthens cultural and ecological connections.
